USA Ultimate Hall of Famer Kenny Dobyns - of New York, New York fame - is not known to stink on the ultimate field except for this one very purposeful time.
Late one season during their reign Ken Dobyns and Pat King determined not to shower all the way through Nationals as a sign of their grit and determination. For weeks they allowed the dirt of the city to build up on them, playing in rain and mud, their hair clumping and odor growing.
Later, in a dual interview with Dobyns, Pat King admitted he had snuck in a few showers, though he hadn't used soap. "I had a job after all," King said. "I didn't," Kenny added; he hadn't showered once.
Smelling foul while playing ultimate was just another attempt by Dobyn's to fend off his defender. New York, New York ultimate team would win 5 consecutive US National championships from 1989 through 1993.

Info: In 1989 Sports Illustrated magazine ran an article about ultimate frisbee - about a team with no name hailing from New York (NYNY) that would change the game forever. The New Yorkers brought not only sophistication and athleticism to the game, but also a high level of intensity - some thought too much intensity. Often vilified for their physical play, they nonetheless shepherded in a new era for the sport. Five million people now play Ultimate around the world, and recent recognition by the International Olympic Committee indicate the sport's growing legitimacy. In 2012, the first ever professional ultimate league was launched in the United States - with referees replacing ultimate's throwback 'Spirit of the Game' rule; as the conflict between ultimate's deeply-spirited roots and its ambitions for a broader audience continues. Later, Chandler explains: "They play an obscure game for no money and no fame. And yet they're as driven as any major league star." More: "There's no coddling for ultimate players. No outside support. No glamour. No glory."
The sport of ultimate Frisbee is defined as: combining "the flashing feet of soccer, the driving passes of football, the fluid moves of basketball, and the strategies of all three sports."

It neatly ties the history to the future with the silky bow that is Alec Baldwin's voice. Even as a six-time world champion I didn't know the giants whose shoulders I stand upon.
