Below are the Top 20 image returns from a GOOGLE search of "Ultimate Frisbee".

What might someone derive from the images about Ultimate Frisbee per Google Image search?
A disc is essential; more males than females play; more catching than throwing; jumping (up or sideways) seems prevalent; and no dogs.

So Close to Solar Homes

doeWelcome to the 2011 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon -- temporary neighbors where our summer & winter Ultimate pickup games are usually played. Similar to solar homes, our Ultimate league games fare better when the sun shines.

DOE's Solar Village is being held at the National Mall’s West Potomac Park, on the banks of the Potomac River on the peninsula just south of the new Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial, between the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Potomac River. The event moved from its previous location on the Mall between the Washington Monument and the Capitol to balance the many uses and demands on the Mall. The event opened on Friday 9/23 & closes Sunday 10/2.

Week 2: It’s No Secret

iNotePadAn entry dictated by Daniel...possibly destined to be written in a secret journal...

Two Sludge people are right in middle of the field.
Two from the other team are right here.
One got it. But ran into each other.
The End.

In the first game, Sludge established the game pace early versus Built 2 Swill – slow their O down; transition into brOwn. David exemplified this with a D and a cross field hammer to Joe. Nigel dove right into the action with a sliding catch on his first point. 5-3.

Bucci’s sharp cutting, Jen’s strong handed flicks, and CHarlie’s goal line backhand to MicHael pushed Sludge to a 4-point halftime lead. 8-4.

By the time the player formerly known as NICH was RE-renicknamed to a new "NICH" Now Ice Cream Hangover, Sludge was eager for more playtime [playing time].

On the 7-2 second half run, Matthew connected with new-cleated-bare-foot Brian (10-5), Andrew zipped from midfield to track down a throw (11-5), as Joe collected a “bookend” with a knockdown in the zone cup & then caught the score. Win 15-6.

----------------------

During intermission in between game 1 and 2, original Sludge won 2-0 versus orange Sludge.
----------------------
Like the Super Committee, Sludge was balanced but began in a deficit; 0-1. RacHel had an anti-Callahan stance by D’ing 2 opportunities instead embracing the popular D & score. The brown zone kept pressuring as Bird P*rn made many completions but not enough to yards. 5-2.

Regularly, Christy found cutting lanes, & both Sarah and RacHel outran the defense to catch scores. 6-2.

Near half, David threw a fake which resulted in a real nice score for Mike. 8-3.

At 11-4, Sludge were the pigs stationed under a strong zone structure (zone D) that these angry birds could not take down. They had four chances at the goal line stand, and each was repelled. Throwing away all the throwaways from the other tean, Sludge played solidly with Ultimate flow. 14–6. Win 15-8.

Sportspersonship

Tennis has been compared to the lovely game of Ultimate. Rafael Nadal shows why he'd make a great Ultimate frisbee player.

Editorial: The Spirit of the Game [NYt 9.13.11]

Gracious losers, and winners, are, sadly, rare in professional sports. Rafael Nadal’s performance Monday night, after losing this year’s United States Open, was the very essence of graciousness and a reminder of what good sportsmanship really means.

On court, Mr. Nadal plays a relentless, slashing game. Off court, he is nearly always polite and soft-spoken. He had to be deeply tired and frustrated after losing the championship to Novak Djokovic in four grueling sets — his sixth straight loss to his rival. But at the postmatch press conference, Mr. Nadal refused to make excuses or look to blame anyone but himself.

When reporters opened by asking about a medical timeout Mr. Djokovic had taken, Mr. Nadal said, “We are starting the press conference in a bad way, I think. It’s not the right moment to find excuses.” When he was asked whether Mr. Djokovic’s evident back pain gave Mr. Nadal hope during the match, he said, simply, “My hope is always about myself, not about the opponent.” As for any future Nadal-Djokovic matches, he said, “It’s going to be tough to change the situation, but the goal is easy to see.”

It was moving to watch a man who had played with so much heart also speak with so much heart. His praise for Mr. Djokovic, who is having one of the greatest seasons ever, was generous and accurate. But the thing of beauty — and the very ethic behind his game — was the self-recognition in Mr. Nadal’s words, the sense of his personal responsibility for what happens to him on the court. It can be summed up in one of his own phrases, uttered with a terse eloquence: “Accept the challenge, and work.”

Head & the Heart

Ultimate is a non-contact sport; biking is, too. Bucci recommends a correctly worn helmet when riding a bicycle bcs the rider, most likely, will be falling forward rather than backwards. Helmets protect more than just your head, like your FACE & BRAIN.

In the video, Headrick's widow stated Ed's wish this way: "When I die, I want to be made into a Frisbee."
Discraft discs were created using the cremated remains of Ed Headrick. [screengrab via video]
The final disc golf discs were imprinted with the saying "Tee off and fly freely."

It was "Steady" Ed's wish that after he die he be cremated. Ed had a unique twist to his wish to be cremated, he also wanted his cremated ashes to be incorporated into discs so that not only his soul could fly free but his ashes too. [via]

If you're wondering why there's someone stalking you, it's bcs they've been assigned to keep you from catching the circle. Usually you have the same kind of genitals.

Crashing News

Sludge medical team recently learned another Sludge bicyclist was admitted to Foggy Bottom after some foggy details.

On Friday (9/2), Matthew experienced a solo bicycle crash along the Rock Creek Park bike path near Cleveland Park between 11:05 - 11:30pm. He blacked out; but pieced together he landed on a grassy area, made a call to his P's, then rang 9-1-1, and later regained consciousness at GWU Hospital.

What's known: His helmet was cracked; his head was not. No breaks, except skin on his shoulder & elbows. Bike survived, (& most importantly) so did Matthew!
