Non-TRON

It will be a while until TRON is FINN-ished, but here's another option.

The story of Finn on the Fly follows Frisbee-playing dog named Finn and his shy 13 year-old owner Ben (Matthew Knight). Both of their lives are changed when Finn is accidentally transformed into a human being (Ryan Belleville) when their neighbor Dr. Madeline Madsen's (Ana Gasteyer) science experiment goes wrong next door. While on two legs, Finn teaches Ben how to find his own pack, feel the wind in his fur and catch Frisbees like a dog. While helping Ben, Finn also helps the misfit kids on Ben's losing ultimate Frisbee team taste victory for their first time.

Week 6: What "E" Day

edaypicsAndrew recaps...
On April 24, Sludge belatedly celebrated Earth Day with a short trip to one of its favorite places on Earth. The normally brown Polo fields were uncharacteristically green and matched the uniforms of our opponents, Absyntheminded. Would this prove to be a bad omen for Sludge or would the team find strength in the fact that most of its players were born before the first Earth Day was celebrated?

The threat of rain appeared to keep tourists away, but could not stop Russ' uncle (and his amazing technocolor bike helmet) from cheering for Sludge. After settling in with a smooth blend of classic zone D (despite only a slight breeze) and a splash of person defense, a 4-4 start turned into a 8-5 halftime advantage for Sludge as its 'just good enough' offense mostly took care of the disc and capitalized on forced and unforced turnovers. Starting the 2nd half on O, Sludge stayed in its happy place while Absynthe appeared to be feeling the effects of their long, first game. Sludge wins 15-6, a total team effort with everyone involved in defense, throwing scores, and catching scores.

Overheard by MattHew...one Absinthe player, clearly impressed with brown's rapid scoring efficiency, said with a sheepish smile, "Thanks for making it painless."

Basics: Played 2-on-2 with rules kinda/sorta like volleyball + 4 square. A taut Hula Hoop-sized net is placed at ankle level between a pair of two-player teams. You smack the palm-sized ball down on the net so it ricochets up at your opponents. They have up to three hits between them to control it and bounce it back to you. When they miss, you score. Week 5: wIndeed

windbee
Saturday's game blew in with a fairly steady wind stream. The first 3 points endured about 30 minutes with Sludge slightly OFF-ense. Wind blew, yet throws were denied flow. Up-wind/down-wind wasn't a factor as much as the gusty challenge of being 1) catch-nimble and 2) throw-hopeful. Points were traded in the first half with neither chompp, nor brown truly prevailing. 1-1, 4-2, 6-4.

Sludge breezed into half up 4 points, and then galed to a 10-4 lead. Bucci, Jen Sarah & Rachel flexed their gusted D skills to help prevent any up field throws. Andrew, Joe and David supplied brOwn jet stream with controlled, continuous medium-to-short passing. The wind was friendly in the 2nd half as a Nigel overthrow to CHris, which MicHael caught & then threw to Rachel for a bounding score.

To cap the game, Matthew threw a huck to Russ. Win 15-7.

Sludge, again, sweetly celebrated the end of the game with lightly frosted chocolate cupcakes from Jen.

Album: Frisbee (2009) By: NOFX
After recently celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band, NOFX is still firing on all cylinders with the release of their 11th studio full-length, Frisbee. Boasting a title that takes a playful jab at the current direction of the music industry, Frisbee showcases NOFX's limitless proficiency in crafting songs that simultaneously electrify and entertain. There is little question about what has separated NOFX as an enduring force in independent music, and more specifically, as an institution in the punk scene over the past 25 years and Frisbee is yet another credit to their legacy.

Very Rich

pbrookies...in calories. Stop drooling. Start baking.

A perfectly chewy peanut butter cookies with a lovely golden brown color, and the filling is a simple peanut butter frosting.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Sandwich Cookies

Yield: about 18 sandwich cookies
Ingredients:
For the cookies:

¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
8 tbsp. unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ cup creamy peanut butter
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup light brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup quick-cooking oats

For the filling:
3 tbsp. unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted
3 tbsp. heavy cream

Directions:
To make the cookies, preheat the oven to 350˚ F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir together with a fork to blend. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter, peanut butter and sugars on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Blend in the egg and vanilla extract. Add the dry ingredients and mix on low speed just until incorporated. Stir in the oats until evenly blended.

Use a small cookie dough scoop to portion out the dough (about 2 teaspoons), rolling each portion into a ball, and place them on the prepared cookie sheet, a couple inches apart. Bake about 10 minutes, rotating the sheet halfway through baking. The cookies will be light golden brown and slightly puffed. Let cool on the baking sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cook completely. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Once the cookies have cooled completely, pair them up by size. To make the filling, combine the butter, peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer. Cream together until well combined. Mix in the heavy cream until smooth and fluffy. Use a pastry bag fitted with a plain round tip to pipe a swirl of filling onto the flat side of one cookie of each pair. Sandwich together with the remaining cookie and press down so that the filling reaches the edges. (Note: This filling recipe makes *just* exactly enough to fill the cookies. If you like a large amount of filling or just want to be sure you have enough, you might consider increasing the amount of filling by 50%.)

Week 4: Hot Tub Time Machine

hottubWith nearly all of Sludge – Amelia, Andrew, Anna, Brian, Charlie, Chris, Christy, Daniel, David, Jake, Jen, Joe, Keller, MattHew, Meg, MicHael, Mike, Nigel, Rachel, Russ, Sarah & Steve – blossoming for Saturday’s game, it was simply a beautiful sight. Like everyone knew there’d be a snack at the end of the game. As If!

Confirming the lack of land surveyors on the team, the field was finally sited aside the FDR Memorial due to Polo Field land issues. So many Sludge, so little room to grab the disc at the opening cheer, so great!

Sludge began strong and gobbled up all of Fitin’ Carrotz turnovers thanks to brown’s pressure zone; effectively preventing any sustained flow and long throws by the other team. 2-1, 3-1, 4-1. Another turnover? All like No Way! 6-1. Sludge like totally was Izod-ing all the way to half as a pass to Jen was brushed to CHris to make it 8-2.

Where some points were unrulely gnarly – feisty rule calls &/or picks, others were highly competitive and back-&-forth. The outcome may have been different if the 2nd half was the first half.

At 11-3, still atop the leader board, Sludge began to move like trees. Like everyone had forgotten there was gonna be a secret sweet treat at game’s end. As If! The Biting-Off-Less-Than-You-Can-Chew approach to offense worked really well for the team in the lead.

At 13-7, Sludge put the final crimp on any FiCa comeback with 2 scores by Sarah. Cool Beans! Win 15-7.

Wreturn

dbgf09Wash, DC -- David made his fairly anticipated return to ultimate Frisbee, ending a 10-month hiatus brought on by a wrist injury.

Sludge's No. 1-ranked Wii player announced in a silent Doodle RSVP Friday that Saturday’s game would be the date of his comeback.

"Sludge has always been a special focus in my career &, I think the National Mall is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played." David said in a statement.

CHarlie, said: "We support David's decision to return to competitive Frisbee. Additionally, we support and encourage his stated commitment to continue the significant work required to rebuild his wrist-ourseful life."

"The long and shorts of it is we look forward to David's return to Sludge and seeing his lobster-claw catches back on the field," Umbro, manufacturer of David’s very, very outdated shorts, said in a prepared statement.

ESPN did not send any reporters to the event bcs of a 24-7 weekend coverage of the “Cheetah” Woods' return.

"When I finally got into a position to think about competitive play again, it became apparent to me that April 10th would be the earliest I could play," David said. "I want to thank Gayle for her loving support and understanding, plus all the participants in last year’s Fun Wrun. And, I'll give a very tender hi-five to anyone who can find my brown shirt, thanks.”

Name: Skeeball

Basics: A common arcade game similar to bowling except it is played on an inclined lane and the player aims to get the ball to fall into a hole rather than knock down pins. The object of the game is to collect as many points as possible by rolling balls up an incline and into the designated point value holes.

Week 3: Bunny Business

Sludge's slow arrival would not be reflective of the first half's first half. Brown hopped to a 4-0 lead thanks to a savage zone D by Chris, CHarlie, Hectah [sic], Steve, Joe, Sarah & Rachel.

More of the colony showed up. Upon MattHew's arrival, his first throw increased the lead to 5-2. When Jen & Brian appeared, Sludge D continued their egg-asperate goal line stances. Though, young Toast slowly caught up to brown.

Down 1 at half, Sludge never sacrificed the O-pportunity symbolizing an oxygen efficient, patient (walking) offense toward the goal. Relying on a pinch middle zone, their opponents had to work for their points.LnL

Game action was all around high-quality egg-cluding one "sloppy" point; a pass from Jen over to CH who stepped in the only mud puddle in the end zone. 12-10.

Egged on by a youthful Chicagoan cheering section, Sludge leavened to the occasion over Toast. Win 15-12.
