Grandiose

Someday, maybe even as soon as tomorrow, you'll thank me for this post...

Playing an active role in the health of (grand)children [02.23.09]

There is an expression that says: "a grandparent is a parent who has a second chance." Indeed, many grandparents feel less stress than when they were a working parent and now have more time and energy to spend with a grandchild.

As a grandparent, your special relationship with a grandchild provides a unique opportunity for you to be a positive role model. You do not replace the parents, but you can reinforce their message when it comes to teaching young people about lifelong healthy habits.

Wondering how to be a good role model in the lives of your grandchildren? Consider these points:

Get moving together. There is lots to do outside, including kicking a ball, walking, hiking, biking and throwing a Frisbee. You might plan a special outing such as bowling, swimming, or skating. If you haven't been very active, remember to start slowly and gradually increase activity levels. ...

The role of grandparent is a special one, not the least of which is helping a younger generation enjoy health for life!
