Team Rankings in 2015 MLU Season: Offense & Defense

Each MLU team played 10 regular season games within their division in the 2015 season. Boston Whitecaps (7-3) led the league in goals (214) and the Portland Stags (9-1) allowed the fewest goals in the league (156). The 2015 league average for total goals per game was nearly 19 points (18.7).

Combining both offensive and defensive rankings provides a total team ranking:

Raw GF/GA does not accurately reflect defensive or offensive strength. Frequently a high GF reflects the strength of a team's defensive offense rather than the strength of their offensive offense.

Portland's defense registered 85 breaks in 216 points (39.35%). Ranking Defenses this way gives:

POR, BOS, SEA, VAN, DC , PHL, SF , NY rather than your
POR, BOS, DC , PHL, SF , VAN, SEA, NY

Boston's offense registered 136 holds in 191 points (71.20%).
Ranking Offenses this way gives:
BOS, PHL, DC , POR, SEA, VAN, NY , SF rather than your
BOS, SEA, POR, PHL, VAN, DC , SF , NY

Now, neither of these numbers is perfect... but the shift of SEA's defense from second-to-last by GA to third-best in conversion is significant. So too the downgrading of Seattle's offense from second-best to fifth.

Should be a fun game!

Excellent data points! Important aspects of the sport of ultimate - O holds vs D breaks. Another visual charting such data may be necessary in the near future.
