Professional Ultimate Jobs

There are other ways to be on an MLU team besides being a pro Ultimate player.
Players are responsible for winning the game & showing the
world why Ultimate is the greatest secret on Earth.
Go to any other the MLU teams' websites and click the "JOBS" tab to see how to get involved with professional Ultimate. You need not be a player to contribute to a team. Available positions are 'paid per game', a 'paid' position or 'unpaid'. The available job list is sorted below:
MLU team jobs: Paid per game (left side). "Paid" or "unpaid" (right side).
  • An MLU team coach ($125) is paid 4 times more than an MLU player ($25).
  • The Head Ref is paid the same amount as an MLU team coach; $125 per game.
  • There are 8 "paid" jobs and 5 "unpaid" internships.
  • Assistant Coach & Social Media Coordinator are paid the same as a player ($25/game)
  • There are 7 MLU team jobs that pay more than a player. ($50 - $125/game)

You're not counting the expenses that are paid to outfit players with uniforms, travel, etc. Not sure what that total would be, but it's definitely additional compensation. The other jobs, with exception of coaches to some extent, don't incur those expenses, right?

Dear Anonymous @ 9:18AM,
Right. The listed payments are plucked from MLU's brief job descriptions. [posted under the JOBS-tab.] I am not privy to additional benefits but would hope/expect food, lodging, travel, uniforms, & equipment are covered. Otherwise, players would be challenged to fulfill their responsibility of "winning the game and showing the world why Ultimate is the greatest secret on Earth."

If anyone has further knowledge on the additional compensation, pls share.

Are you seriously wondering about that? Seriously? Everything else you've seen about the MLU leads you to believe that the players are given 25 bucks to play in a game but are expected to buy their own kit, pay for plane tickets, pay for food?

Stop it.

Well, let's take the pay-per-game at face value...
Is $25/game fair pay for a professional Ultimate player?
[$250 (10-game season)]

You tell me. If you were offered a chance to play against the best competition in front of fans with all expenses paid, all 10 games recorded and streamed and $25 on top of that per game, in addition to having the opportunity to build a market that might support even greater rewards down the line, would you do it?

Or would you do your normal workout routine and quietly look forward to the club season?

Dear Anonymous @ 3:25PM,
Thx for commenting. So, for you, it seems like $25 is fair pay & you consider the MLU season as a pre-season (http://sludgeonline.blogspot.com/2013/01/mlu-is-club-ultimates-preseason.html) to the Club Ulti season.

I didn't offer a comment either way. I asked 2 questions.

Dear Anonymous @ 4:34PM &/or Anonymous @ 3:25PM,
My reference to "commenting" meant you 'left a comment'. Anyways, thanks for asking 2 questions in the comments section.

Anyone who wants to offer their 2-cents, pls do so.

Interesting that both professional leagues offer the same basic benefits, yet one is ignored while the other is continuously announced and discussed by the friendly media? Seems like a blind eye back scratching.
